    LWV Oak Ridge Hosts "Artificial Intelligence Technology"

    Guest: Dr. Lynne Parker, PhD; Associate Vice Chancellor and Director of Artificial Intelligence Technology, UTK

    Topic: Artificial Intelligence is of critical importance to societies as the advancement of this technology has the ability for considerable good as well as considerable evil. AI is at a crossroads (much as atomic energy was after WWII) and we will need to determine its ultimate path 

    Dr. Lynne Parker’s bio:

    Dr. Parker is Associate Vice Chancellor and Director of the AI Tennessee Initiative at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). For four years (2018-2022) she served various roles in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, including as Founding Director of the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Office, Deputy Chief Technology Officer of the United States, and Assistant Director of Artificial Intelligence. At UTK, she previously served as Interim Dean of the Tickle College of Engineering (TCE), Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Engagement in TCE, and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She also previously served at NSF as Division Director of Information and Intelligent Systems. She spent several years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a Distinguished Research and Development Staff Member. She received her PhD in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    LWV Murfreesboro Hosts "The 2024 Election Year: An Overview"

    The League of Women Voters of Murfreesboro/Rutherford County will be hosting a meeting entitled "The 2024 Election Year: An Overview”.

    The meeting will be held at the Heritage Center, 225 W. College Street in Murfreesboro on January 11, 2024 with a social time to be held from 6-6:30 p.m. and will feature a presentation from Alan Farley, Rutherford County Administrator of Elections starting at 6:30 p.m.

    The event will be open to the public.
